Summary

Comparing polyglactin 910 and polypropylene for cesarean delivery wound closure, this study found no significant difference in surgical site infections or wound complications. Both materials offer similar safety profiles for subcuticular skin closure.

Background:

  • Cesarean delivery is a common surgical procedure.
  • Subcuticular skin closure is frequently used to minimize scarring.
  • Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a potential complication following cesarean delivery.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the incidence of surgical wound infection between two common subcuticular suture materials: polyglactin 910 and polypropylene.
  • To evaluate overall wound complication rates associated with each suture type.

Main Methods:

  • Randomized controlled trial involving 213 women undergoing cesarean delivery.
  • Subcuticular skin closure using either polyglactin 910 or polypropylene.
  • Postoperative wound assessment at 7 and 30 days for complications, with SSI as the primary outcome.
