Summary

Expanded forehead flaps for nasal reconstruction can lead to poor long-term results due to late shrinkage, especially when all nasal structures are absent. This technique may not be suitable for extensive nasal defects.

Background:

Forehead flaps are a standard for total nasal reconstruction.
Tissue expansion of forehead flaps is a potential option for subtotal reconstruction when donor skin is limited.

Observation:

The use of expanded forehead flaps for cases requiring total nasal structure reconstruction is not well-documented.
This study investigates the long-term outcomes of expanded forehead flaps in patients with complete absence of nasal structures.

Findings:

Expanded forehead flaps resulted in poor long-term outcomes in three patients.
Late shrinkage of the expanded forehead flap was observed, compromising the reconstruction.
