    New miniaturized methods offer rapid surface viable counting, using less material and time than conventional spread-plate techniques. These techniques are easier, quicker, and as accurate as existing methods for bacterial enumeration.

    Background:

    • To introduce and evaluate three novel miniaturized methods for rapid surface viable counting.
    • To compare the efficiency and accuracy of these new methods against established techniques.

    • Development of miniaturized agar discs (25 mm diameter) for bacterial culture.
    • Utilisation of micropipettes and specialized spreaders (platinum-Mini-spreader, Loop-spreader) for inoculum application.
