Area of Science:

  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Traumatology

Background:

  • Distal phalanx fractures are common injuries.
  • Conservative management, including splinting, is the standard initial treatment for lesser digital fractures.

Observation:

  • This case report details a patient with a distal phalanx fracture who experienced persistent symptoms despite conservative treatment.
  • The patient's condition necessitated further evaluation and intervention.

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention was indicated for definitive treatment when conservative methods failed to alleviate symptoms.
  • The presented case highlights a scenario where surgical management becomes necessary for distal phalanx fractures.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of considering surgical options for distal phalanx fractures that are refractory to conservative care.
  • Effective management of these fractures ensures optimal functional recovery and symptom relief.
