Area of Science:

  • Cardiovascular Pathology
  • Oncology
  • Surgical Pathology

Background:

  • Primary cardiac sarcomas are rare malignant tumors originating within the heart.
  • Intimal pleomorphic sarcoma is an uncommon subtype with potential for aggressive behavior.

Observation:

  • Two patients presented with distinct clinical manifestations: one with heart failure symptoms and another with ischemic stroke.
  • Diagnostic imaging and pathological examination confirmed primary cardiac sarcomas in both individuals.

Findings:

  • The first patient had a right ventricular outflow tract sarcoma extending into the pulmonary artery, with lung metastasis.
  • The second patient had a left atrial sarcoma with metastasis to the small bowel and femur.

Implications:

  • This case series highlights the diverse clinical presentations and metastatic potential of primary cardiac sarcomas.
  • Early diagnosis and comprehensive management strategies are crucial for improving outcomes in patients with these rare tumors.
