A rare case of scleral tuberculosis (TB) presented as an ulcerative nodule. This eye condition, along with systemic TB, successfully responded to anti-TB medications alone.

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Microbiology

Background:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) can affect various organs, but scleral involvement is exceptionally rare.
  • Ocular manifestations of TB require prompt diagnosis and management to prevent vision loss.

Observation:

  • A unique case of scleral tuberculosis presenting as an ulcerative scleral nodule was observed.
  • The patient exhibited corroborative evidence of disseminated tuberculous lesions.

Findings:

  • The scleral nodule, a manifestation of tuberculosis, demonstrated a positive response to antituberculous treatment.
  • Systemic tuberculous lesions were also detected and treated concurrently.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering tuberculosis in the differential diagnosis of ulcerative scleral lesions.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Early diagnosis and appropriate antituberculous therapy can lead to favorable outcomes in scleral TB.
  • Further research into the pathogenesis and management of ocular TB is warranted.
