Atherosclerotic Risk Factors in Children with Celiac Disease

Children with celiac disease (CD) on a gluten-free diet (GFD) show lower folic acid and altered lipid profiles. These changes, along with increased BMI and inactivity, may increase long-term atherosclerosis risk.

- These factors may collectively increase the long-term risk of atherosclerosis in this pediatric population.
- Further research is warranted to establish the need for metabolic and cardiovascular risk screening in children with CD.
