Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Area of Science:

  • Public Health
  • Health Informatics
  • Information Systems Management

Background:

  • The National Immunization Program Information System (SIPNI) is a key tool for managing and monitoring immunization activities in Brazil.
  • Despite advanced decentralization, SIPNI faces operational and usage challenges impacting its effectiveness.
  • This study evaluates the 2017 deployment of SIPNI in Minas Gerais.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the implementation status of the SIPNI in primary healthcare vaccination rooms in Minas Gerais.
  • To identify structural and process-related challenges affecting SIPNI's operational performance.
  • To evaluate the degree of implementation across different SIPNI components.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study was conducted in 54 municipalities in Minas Gerais in 2017.
  • Nursing professionals in vaccination rooms completed a questionnaire assessing system structure and process.
  • Implementation Degree (ID) was scored, and data were analyzed using medians and Pearson's Chi-Squared Test.

Main Results:

  • SIPNI implementation was inadequate, primarily due to issues within health service units and professional technology use.
  • Structural aspects (70.9% ID) were better evaluated than process aspects (59.5% ID).
  • Key challenges included insufficient internet access, poor communication channel utilization, and inadequate professional training. 'Movement of Immunobiological' had the highest ID (68.5%), followed by 'immunized patient records' (59.3%) and 'SIPNI management' (50.7%).

Conclusions:

  • SIPNI remains an underutilized technological innovation with significant implementation gaps.
  • Overcoming challenges like web version implementation, internet connectivity, and user capabilities is essential.
  • Despite challenges, SIPNI holds positive potential for optimizing vaccination room operations.
