Background:

Finasteride, a 5α-reductase inhibitor, has been used for male androgenic alopecia since 1997.
It was considered safe with rare, reversible side effects.
Emerging reports suggest persistent adverse reactions post-discontinuation, termed post-finasteride syndrome.

Purpose of the Study:

To review the current understanding of post-finasteride syndrome.
To assess the potential risks associated with 5α-reductase inhibitors.

Main Methods:

Literature review of reported cases and studies on finasteride.
Analysis of adverse drug-related reactions and their persistence.

Main Results:

Post-finasteride syndrome encompasses persistent sexual, neuropsychiatric, and physical symptoms.
Current evidence cannot confirm or refute the syndrome as a distinct nosological entity.
Symptoms may occur in susceptible individuals even after low-dose or short-term exposure and can be long-lasting.

Conclusions:
