Background:

Cryptorchidism, the failure of one or both testicles to descend, is a condition observed in various animal species, including llamas.
Unilateral cryptorchidism in llamas presents a unique surgical challenge, often requiring specialized techniques for retained testicle removal.

Observation:

A 5-year-old llama presented with unilateral cryptorchidism, characterized by an abdominally retained right testicle.
The descended left testicle was suitable for routine closed castration.

Findings:

Surgical treatment involved laparoscopic removal of the abdominally retained right testicle.
The procedure was combined with routine closed castration of the descended testicle.

Implications:

Laparoscopic cryptorchidectomy presents a minimally invasive and effective therapeutic option for llamas with abdominally retained testicles.
This technique can be considered a suitable surgical treatment, potentially reducing recovery time and complications compared to traditional open surgery.
