Observation:
- Two male patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia presented with unique chest CT findings.
- CT scans revealed multiple bilateral ground-glass opacities containing smooth-walled cysts.
- Pneumothorax was also observed in conjunction with these cystic lesions.
Findings:
- The cystic lesions showed a reduction in number on follow-up CT scans.
- One patient recovered and was discharged, while the other moved to rehabilitation.
- COVID-19 infection may directly cause pulmonary cysts and pneumothorax.
Implications:
- Pulmonary cyst formation and pneumothorax are potential complications of COVID-19.
- Mechanical ventilation may also contribute to the development of these cystic changes.
- Further research is needed to understand the pathogenesis and clinical significance of these findings.
