Abstract:
The McDonald diagnostic criteria for multiple sclerosis include clinical, radiological, and laboratory feature last revised in 2017. The aim of the most recent revision was to improve sensitivity of the McDonald diagnostic criteria for a faster diagnosis, without sacrificing specificity. with the revised criteria, the time between onset and diagnosis reduced from approximately half a year to 2-3 months. The revised criteria should be used for patients with clinically isolated syndrome and should not be used to differentiate from other diseases. This review gives an overview of the 2017 McDonald criteria and explains how to use them.
