Insights
The 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak spread rapidly globally. This review details its epidemiology, offering insights into its high contagiousness compared to SARS-CoV.
Area of Science:
- Epidemiology
- Infectious Diseases
- Public Health
Background:
- The 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) emerged in Wuhan, China, in late 2019.
- The virus demonstrated rapid spread across multiple cities within a month.
- While less lethal than SARS, 2019-nCoV exhibited significantly higher contagiousness.
Purpose of the Study:
- To summarize key epidemiological features of the 2019-nCoV outbreak.
- To provide updated findings and novel insights into the virus's spread and characteristics.
- To highlight the importance of monitoring the ongoing evolution of 2019-nCoV.
Main Methods:
- Mini-review of existing literature and data.
- Analysis of epidemiological characteristics.
- Synthesis of relevant findings and insights.
Main Results:
- The 2019-nCoV outbreak exhibited rapid geographical dissemination.
- Comparative analysis indicated higher transmissibility than SARS-CoV.
- The review consolidates critical epidemiological data.
Conclusions:
- Understanding the epidemiology of 2019-nCoV is crucial due to its high contagiousness.
- Continued monitoring of the virus's evolution is essential.
- This review provides a foundational summary for further research and public health strategies.
Abstract:
The fast-growing outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which originated from Wuhan locating in central China at the end of 2019, spread to multiple cities in merely a month. Although the mortality of this disease was lower than that of SARS, the incredible contagiousness was much higher than SRAS-CoV. Because of the tremendous clout of 2019-nCoV, it is essential to hold more details about it and monitor its future evolution. This mini review consequently summarizes the key elements of epidemiology features, providing updated relevant findings and novel insights related to 2019-nCoV.
