Group Polarization01:01

Group Polarization

38.3K
Group polarization is the strengthening of an original group attitude following the discussion of views within a group (Teger & Pruitt, 1967). That is, if a group initially favors a viewpoint, after discussion the group consensus is likely a stronger endorsement of the viewpoint. Conversely, if the group was initially opposed to a viewpoint, group discussion would likely lead to stronger opposition.

    Area of Science:

    • Electromagnetics
    • Materials Science

    Background:

    • Metasurfaces offer efficient control of electromagnetic wave polarization.
    • Designing dual-band polarization conversion metasurfaces with high angular stability, especially in transmission, remains challenging.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To propose a dual-band linear-to-circular polarization conversion metasurface with high angular stability.
    • To demonstrate a novel meta-atom design for flexible wave manipulation.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilizing an array of multi-resonance meta-atoms.
    • Designing a meta-atom composed of double split-ring layers and a central bar layer with a circle-slot.

    Main Results:

    • Achieved dual-band linear-to-circular polarization conversion with high efficiency and angular stability.
    • Demonstrated low insertion loss (<0.5 dB and <0.3 dB) and excellent axial ratio (<3 dB) in specified frequency bands.
    • Confirmed high performance for incident angles up to 55°.

    Conclusions:

    • The proposed metasurface effectively converts polarization at dual frequencies with high angular stability.
    • This design offers a new pathway for developing dual-frequency meta-devices with robust angular performance.
