Summary

Cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) can cause hemoptysis. This meta-analysis found that while most cases are mild, severe hemoptysis occurred in 3.5% of patients undergoing AF cryoablation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the incidence and severity of hemoptysis following cryoballoon ablation for AF.
  • To analyze the timing and potential contributing factors of hemoptysis.

  • Systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between 2008 and 2019.
  • Literature search conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases.
  • Inclusion of studies reporting hemoptysis after cryoballoon ablation for AF.

  • Overall hemoptysis incidence was 3.08% (109 patients).
