Temporal lobe involvement in Capgras syndrome.

Summary

Capgras syndrome, a delusion of unreality, emerged during neurocysticercosis treatment. This temporal lobe cognitive-dysmnesic phenomenon improved but persisted after Praziquantel therapy.

Background:

Neurocysticercosis is a parasitic infection of the brain caused by tapeworm larvae.
Capgras syndrome is a rare psychiatric disorder characterized by the delusion that familiar people are impostors.

Observation:

A patient presented with Capgras syndrome coinciding with Praziquantel treatment for neurocysticercosis.
Neuroimaging revealed a left-temporal lobe cysticercus.

Findings:

The patient experienced delusions and neurological symptoms that partially resolved after treatment.
