    Background:

    • Acute stroke management varies globally.
    • Ischemic stroke (IS) requires timely and effective interventions.
    • Understanding current physician practices is crucial for improving stroke care.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To assess current IS management practices among physicians in Lebanon.
    • To identify challenges and areas for improvement in stroke care within Lebanon.
    • To evaluate the utilization of guideline-based therapies in Lebanese hospitals.

    Main Methods:

    • Prospective observational study conducted in 8 Lebanese hospitals.
    • Inclusion of patients diagnosed with acute stroke between August 1, 2015, and July 31, 2016.
    • Collection and analysis of baseline characteristics, diagnostic studies, and treatments received during hospitalization and at discharge.

    Main Results:

    • 173 ischemic stroke patients included; mean age 69.8 years.
    • Hypertension (78.6%) and smoking (50.3%) were prevalent risk factors.
    • Thrombolytic therapy was administered to only 2.5% of IS patients; 55% were dependent at discharge (mRS 0-2).

    Conclusions:

    • Significant challenges exist in stroke care delivery in Lebanon.
    • Underutilization of reperfusion therapy is a major barrier to achieving guideline-based goals.
    • There is substantial potential for enhancing stroke management protocols and patient outcomes in Lebanon.
