Background of the demonstrated IMAGIS activities and future expectations

Background:

• The Netherlands initiated a national Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) development program.
• This program is supported by the Dutch Society of Radiology and funded by the Dutch Department of Health.
• Key partners include Utrecht University Hospital, BAZIS, and Philips, with Delft University of Technology as a subcontractor.

Purpose of the Study:

• To achieve a PACS fully integrated with existing hospital information systems (HIS).
• To address technical and clinical aspects of HIS-PACS development and operation.
• To present intermediate results at the 6th EuroPACS Conference.

Main Methods:

• Development of the IMAGe Information System (IMAGIS) by BAZIS, integrated into the national PACS project.
• Concentration on diagnostic image quality evaluation, including data compression effects.
• Modeling, software simulation, and technology assessment of prototype PACS, alongside HIS-PACS coupling experiments.

• Development of the FEASIBLE (Feature Evaluation And System Inspection By Logged Experiments) software package for image quality assessment.
• Development of the MIRACLES (Medical Image Representation, Archiving and Communication, Learned by Extensive Simulation) software package for PACS modeling and simulation.
• Presentation of initial results from HIS-PACS coupling experiments.

Conclusions:
