We introduce a transparent spin method for controlling ion polarization. This technique uses synchrotron design to achieve zero net spin rotation, enabling precise control of ion polarization with weak fields.
Area of Science:
- Particle Physics
- Accelerator Physics
Background:
- Controlling ion polarization is crucial for high-energy physics experiments.
- Existing methods for spin control can be complex and limited.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present a novel concept for efficient and dynamic control of ion polarization.
- To introduce the "transparent spin method" for manipulating spin direction.
Main Methods:
- Designing synchrotron structures for zero net spin rotation per particle turn.
- Utilizing weak quasistatic fields for polarization control.
- Illustrating the method in a figure-eight collider configuration.
Main Results:
- Achieved "spin transparency" by canceling net spin rotation.
- Demonstrated efficient control of deuteron polarization.
- Enabled dynamic adjustment of polarization direction during experiments.
Conclusions:
- The transparent spin method offers a powerful new tool for ion polarization control.
- This technique is applicable to current and planned polarized electron-ion colliders worldwide.
