Background:

Pharmacists in general practice improve efficiency and patient care.
Recruitment of pharmacists into general practice is increasing.
Enhancing pharmacists' behavioural and influencing skills, through self-efficacy and resilience, can optimize their impact.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the self-efficacy and resilience of general practice pharmacists.
To explore differences between pharmacists with lower and higher self-efficacy and resilience scores.

Main Methods:

An online survey assessed 159 general practice pharmacists in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Validated tools, the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) and Short General Resilience Scale (GRIT), measured unconscious learning needs.
Responses were analyzed by quartiles of GSES and GRIT scores.

Main Results:

57% of pharmacists completed the survey; most were female, white, and aged 38 years on average.
Pharmacists scored highly on both self-efficacy (mean 25/32) and resilience (mean 30/40).
A positive correlation was found between self-efficacy and resilience (r=0.284, p=0.006), but no significant differences were identified between lower and upper quartile scorers.

Conclusions:

General practice pharmacists generally exhibit high levels of self-efficacy and resilience.
These traits were not significantly associated with demographic or professional experience.
Targeted interventions for pharmacists with lower scores may improve their effectiveness in general practice.
