International collaboration in pharmacy practice research is low, with only 12.6% of eligible papers published between 2009-2018. A slight upward trend and citation link were observed, but no correlation with country development.
Area of Science:
- Pharmacy Practice Research
- Bibliometrics
- Scientific Collaboration
Background:
- International collaborative research offers numerous benefits across scientific disciplines.
- However, data on international collaborative practices in pharmacy practice research remains scarce.
Purpose of the Study:
- To map and analyze international collaborations in pharmacy practice research.
- To examine trends and correlations related to international collaboration from 2009 to 2018.
Main Methods:
- Selected 19 representative pharmacy practice journals from a hierarchical classification.
- Analyzed articles and reviews published between 2009-2018 using Scopus data.
- Defined international collaboration as papers with authors affiliated with institutions in two or more countries.
Main Results:
- Out of 16,107 analyzed articles/reviews, 1670 (12.6%) involved international collaboration.
- A slight positive trend in international collaboration rates was observed over the decade.
- No correlation was found between the Human Development Index and the rate of international collaboration.
Conclusions:
- Pharmacy practice research exhibits low rates of international collaboration.
- A modest increase in international collaboration was noted, alongside a positive association with citations.
- Country development level did not correlate with the extent of international collaboration in this field.
