Summary

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma is a rare neck malignancy. This case highlights that any unusual neck swelling in young individuals may indicate this rare cancer, even though it typically affects older adults.

Background:

Liposarcomas are rare malignant tumors, predominantly affecting the retroperitoneum and lower extremities.
Head and neck liposarcomas are exceptionally uncommon and pose a significant threat to life.

Observation:

A 22-year-old male presented with a dedifferentiated cervical liposarcoma.
The patient underwent local excision for the tumor.

Findings:

The patient experienced no recurrence of the dedifferentiated cervical liposarcoma at twenty months post-surgery.
This case underscores that liposarcomas, while typically found in individuals aged 40-60, can occur in younger patients.

Implications:

Neck swelling in young patients with atypical characteristics warrants high suspicion for malignancy, including rare liposarcomas.
