Expression of immune checkpoints in active nonsegmental vitiligo: a pilot study

Immune checkpoints programmed death-1 (PD-1) and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 (CTLA-4) are expressed in active nonsegmental vitiligo (NSV) skin lesions. Their expression is higher at the lesion margin, suggesting a role in vitiligo pathogenesis.

- Further research is needed to elucidate the precise role of these immune checkpoints in vitiligo development and progression.
