Area of Science:

  • Dermatology and Immunology
  • Pain Research
  • Systematic Reviews

Background:

  • Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease frequently accompanied by pain.
  • Pain significantly impacts patients' quality of life, daily functioning, and overall well-being.
  • Effective pain management is a critical treatment goal for individuals with psoriasis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To conduct a systematic scoping review to map the available literature on pain in psoriasis.
  • To synthesize both quantitative and qualitative evidence regarding pain experienced by psoriasis patients, including psoriatic arthritis.
  • To identify and summarize research on pain associated with psoriasis to inform future studies and clinical practice.

Main Methods:

  • A comprehensive search of multiple databases (MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, OpenGrey, ProQuest) will be performed.
  • All study types, without restrictions on time, language, or publication status, will be included.
  • Data extraction and quality appraisal will be conducted independently by two researchers using established tools (MMAT, AMSTAR 2, Cochrane risk of bias, ROBINS).

Main Results:

  • The review will synthesize findings from diverse studies on psoriasis-related pain.
  • Evidence on the prevalence, characteristics, and impact of pain in psoriasis will be presented.
  • The review will identify gaps in the current literature and highlight areas for future research.

Conclusions:

  • This systematic scoping review will provide a comprehensive overview of the literature on pain in psoriasis.
  • The findings will inform clinicians and researchers about the current state of evidence regarding pain management in psoriasis.
  • Understanding the scope of research on psoriasis pain is crucial for improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
