Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop an assessment framework for the integrated evaluation of pharmacy students' competency in medication supply.
  • To establish a validity argument for this framework using multiple sources of evidence.

  • A two-phase prospective study was conducted.
  • Phase 1: Development and content validation of the Model of Entrustment in Dispensing Skills (MEDS) framework through literature review, think-aloud study, and expert consultation.

  • The MEDS framework demonstrated good content validity, representing 88% of national practice-based competencies.

  • A strong correlation was found between EPA and total scores (Spearman's rho = 0.725, P < .001).

  • A valid and rigorous approach for integrated, simulation-based assessment of pharmacy students' medication supply competency has been developed.
  • The MEDS framework supports the determination of student progress towards independent practice entrustment.
