- Study excluded patients with overlap syndromes.
Main Results:
- Reticulonodular opacities and ground glassing on HRCT were common, suggesting non-specific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) and usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP).
- Pulmonary hypertension was prevalent in limited SSc (lcSSc). A restrictive spirometry pattern was observed in 38 patients, and 44 had abnormal DLco.
- Modified Rodnan Score (MRS) significantly correlated with pulmonary involvement detected by DLco and HRCT.
Conclusions:
- Systemic sclerosis can cause subclinical lung involvement, detectable before overt respiratory symptoms.
- DLco and HRCT are vital for early detection and outcome prediction in SSc-related lung disease.
- Higher MRS scores correlate with early visceral involvement, useful for prediction in resource-limited settings.
