Anthocyanins in leaves: light attenuators or antioxidants?

Anthocyanins protect plant leaves from sun damage by shielding chloroplasts and neutralizing harmful reactive oxygen species. This study shows anthocyanins effectively reduce photooxidative injury without hindering photosynthesis.
