  • Common causes include metal-backed patellar component failure (40%) and implant wear (27%).
  • Diagnosis relies on histopathology and surgical evaluation; blood tests are not indicative. Complete prosthesis exchange yielded good results (89.4% complication-free).

Conclusions:

  • Metallosis after knee arthroplasty is rare but underreported.
