Background:

Public understanding and acceptance of chemotherapy remain debated despite its long history in cancer treatment.
No prior studies have examined social media conversations and misconceptions about chemotherapy among Arabic-speaking populations.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the nature of conversations and identify misconceptions about chemotherapy shared on Twitter by Arabic speakers.

Main Methods:

Collected Arabic tweets related to chemotherapy from May to October 2017.
Conducted manual content analysis to categorize users, tweet themes, and misconceptions.
Used chi-square tests to analyze associations between user categories and tweet themes.

Main Results:

Analyzed 29,904 relevant tweets, with most from general users (86.2%).
The most common theme was supportive messages (67.8%), followed by misconceptions (7.0%).
A significant association was found between user categories and tweet themes (P<.001).

Conclusions:

Twitter serves as a valuable platform for understanding public health conversations and misconceptions.
Supportive messages on Twitter can act as a patient support mechanism.
Addressing chemotherapy misconceptions can enhance public acceptance of this cancer treatment.
