A new scale, the SSV-ICF, reliably measures staff readiness for International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) practices. This tool aids in developing effective staff training for disability services.
Area of Science:
- Rehabilitation science
- Disability studies
- Psychometrics
Background:
- The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model is globally adopted in disability services.
- Impact of ICF-based practices on staff is under-researched.
- Need for validated tools to assess staff's readiness for ICF implementation.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop and validate a scale measuring staff readiness for ICF-based practices.
- To assess staff competency and perceived valences in implementing ICF.
- To provide a tool for evaluating the impact of ICF on personnel.
Main Methods:
- Recruited staff from a non-governmental disability service organization.
- Employed exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).
- Collected data from 338 participants for analysis.
Main Results:
- A five-factor model (perceived knowledge, competence, intrapersonal valence, relational valence, perceived meaning) showed acceptable fit.
- The Scale on Staff Valence under ICF-based practice (SSV-ICF) demonstrated excellent reliability (Cronbach's α = 0.981).
- The 27-item scale confirmed valid and reliable for measuring staff perceptions.
Conclusions:
- The SSV-ICF is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing disability personnel's perceptions of ICF-based practices.
- The scale can inform the development of evidence-based ICF-related staff training programs.
- SSV-ICF is a valuable tool for identifying benefits of ICF practices and designing staff interventions.
