The dopamine D2 receptor (DRD2) gene rs1800497 polymorphism is linked to lower bone mineral density (BMD) in schizophrenia patients. Individuals with the DRD2 rs1800497(T;T) genotype showed reduced BMD, suggesting a genetic risk factor.
