Summary

A common 8-10 week embryonic ultrasound finding, the posterior cranial cystic structure, is identified as the normal hindbrain. This structure resolves later in the first trimester without adverse outcomes.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify the anatomical basis of a small cystic structure detected in the posterior cranium of 8-10 week old embryos using ultrasound.
  • To determine if this finding is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes.
