Summary

Ibuprofen pretreatment improved short-term survival in a rabbit model of group B streptococcal (GBS) shock. However, ibuprofen modified but did not prevent GBS-induced shock or its hematologic complications.

Background:

  • Group B Streptococcus (GBS) can cause severe shock with significant hemodynamic and hematologic alterations.
  • Understanding the therapeutic potential of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen in managing GBS-induced shock is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of high and low doses of ibuprofen on the hemodynamic and hematologic manifestations of GBS shock in a rabbit model.
  • To determine if ibuprofen can prevent or favorably modify the pathological consequences of GBS infection.
