This case report details successful treatment of localized aggressive periodontitis in an 18-year-old female. Regenerative flap surgery over 2.5 years showed significant clinical improvement and no disease recurrence.
Area of Science:
- Dentistry
- Periodontology
- Regenerative Medicine
Background:
- Localized aggressive periodontitis (LAP) is a severe destructive periodontal disease.
- Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for preserving periodontal tissues.
- Treatment often involves a combination of surgical and regenerative approaches.
Observation:
- An 18-year-old female presented with LAP affecting all four quadrants.
- The patient underwent scaling and root planing followed by regenerative flap surgery.
- Various regenerative materials were utilized during the surgical procedures.
Findings:
- Clinical examination revealed significant improvements in periodontal parameters post-surgery.
- Radiographic analysis demonstrated bone fill and regeneration in treated areas.
- No recurrence of the aggressive periodontitis was observed during the 2.5-year follow-up period.
Implications:
- This case highlights the efficacy of regenerative flap surgery in managing LAP in young adults.
- The findings suggest that appropriate surgical techniques and regenerative materials can lead to long-term disease control.
- Further research into optimal regenerative strategies for LAP is warranted.
