Background:

Catecholamine stimulation affects heart rate, cardiac contraction, and peripheral resistance.
Smoking triggers catecholamine release, potentially harming patients with angina.
Existing antianginal drugs include calcium channel blockers (nifedipine) and beta-blockers (propranolol, atenolol).

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the direct effects of smoking on cardiac function in patients with stable angina.
To assess how smoking interferes with the efficacy of nifedipine, propranolol, and atenolol.

A double-blind study involving ten patients with stable angina pectoris.
Patients were treated with nifedipine, propranolol, and atenolol.
