Background:

  • Despite increased coverage of Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) services in Pakistan, suboptimal quality persists, indicated by a high disease burden.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To enhance the capacity of health professionals in Pakistan in implementation science and practice.
  • To support the development of national, community-based, or institution-based implementation teams for MNCH services.
  • To foster systemic change and the effective use of innovations in practice at sub-national/regional levels.

Main Methods:

  • A 16-month 'Implementation for the Professional Learner Program' was conducted in 2019.
  • The program was developed and delivered by the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Research Evidence for Sexual and Reproductive Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC).
  • The Health Services Academy in Pakistan, as part of the WHO's Human Reproduction Program (HRP) Alliance for Research Capacity Strengthening (RCS), participated in the program.
