Insights

This case report highlights the effectiveness of convalescent plasma therapy (CPT) combined with Favipiravir in treating a pregnant patient with COVID-19. Further research is needed to determine optimal CPT protocols for coronavirus disease 2019.

Area of Science:

  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Hematology

Background:

  • Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global pandemic with varied clinical presentations.
  • Effective therapeutic options for COVID-19 remain limited, necessitating exploration of novel treatments.

Observation:

  • A 26-year-old woman, 36 weeks pregnant with twins, was diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • The patient received convalescent plasma therapy (CPT) alongside Favipiravir.

Findings:

  • The patient demonstrated a dramatic positive response to the combined therapy.
  • Convalescent plasma therapy, in conjunction with Favipiravir, showed significant efficacy in this case.

Implications:

  • This case suggests CPT may be a valuable adjunct therapy for severe COVID-19, particularly in pregnant individuals.
  • Further investigation is required to establish optimal CPT dosage, efficacy, safety, and its role in combination therapies for COVID-19.
