Maternal orbital hematoma associated with labor.

Summary

Orbital hematomas in women after labor can cause sudden vision changes. These cases resolved within two weeks without surgery, indicating a favorable prognosis for labor-related orbital hematomas.

Background:

Orbital hematomas are rare complications during labor.
Sudden onset of diplopia, proptosis, and orbital pain can indicate orbital hematoma.

Observation:

Two women presented with acute symptoms of orbital hematoma post-labor.
Diagnostic imaging, including orbital echography and computed tomography, confirmed the hematoma.
Patients were managed conservatively without surgical intervention.

Findings:

Neither patient exhibited signs of compressive optic neuropathy.
Complete clinical resolution of symptoms was observed within two weeks.
Serial orbital echography confirmed the gradual resolution of the hematomas.

Conservative management may be appropriate for select cases of labor-related orbital hematomas.
This suggests that orbital hematomas associated with labor may have a benign clinical course.
Ophthalmological monitoring is crucial to rule out complications like optic nerve compression.
