Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Epilepsy Research

Background:

  • Reflex epilepsy is a rare subtype of epilepsy.
  • Epilepsy can be triggered by specific stimuli.

Observation:

  • A case of epilepsy precipitated by bathing was documented.
  • Previously reported instances of bathing-induced epilepsy were reviewed.

Findings:

  • Bathing-induced epilepsy is a rare form of reflex epilepsy.
  • The prognosis for this condition is generally favorable.
  • Seizures associated with bathing-induced epilepsy tend to resolve with age.

Implications:

  • This suggests that early identification and management can lead to positive outcomes.
  • Further research into reflex epilepsy triggers is warranted.
  • Normal neurodevelopmental outcomes are expected in most cases.
