  • Both conditions are thought to involve inflammatory pathways, though their exact mechanisms remain under investigation.

Observation:

  • A 71-year-old female with invasive ductal carcinoma developed both RRD and RIOP after completing RT and chemotherapy.
  • The patient's history included type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, interstitial cystitis, and osteoarthritis.

Findings:

  • The patient experienced RRD and subsequently RIOP.
  • Both RRD and RIOP resolved effectively with corticosteroid administration.

Implications:

  • The co-occurrence of RRD and RIOP in this patient suggests a potential shared inflammatory pathophysiology.
  • Further research is warranted to explore the frequency, duration, and triggers of concomitant RRD and RIOP.
  • Understanding the shared inflammatory pathway could lead to improved management strategies for these rare RT complications.
