Multimodal imaging of angioid streaks

Multimodal imaging, including multicolor imaging, enhances visualization of angioid streaks (AS) and associated retinal changes. This non-invasive approach aids in clearly delineating these lesions for better diagnosis.

Background:
- Angioid streaks (AS) are characterized by crack-like dehiscences in Bruch's membrane.
- AS are frequently linked to atrophic degeneration of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE).
Observation:
- Multimodal imaging was employed to visualize AS and related fundus findings.
- Multicolor imaging distinctly highlighted AS in a dark orange hue.
- Infrared reflectance provided superior visualization of AS compared to green and blue reflectance imaging.
Findings:
- Peau d'orange appearance presented as alternating dark and bright patches on color fundus photography.
- Infrared reflectance correlated with hyporeflective and hyperreflective patches corresponding to the peau d'orange.
- Comet lesions exhibited increased signal on infrared reflectance and hyperautofluorescence.
Implications:
- Multicolor imaging offers a non-invasive method for precise delineation of angioid streaks.
- Advanced imaging techniques improve the understanding and diagnosis of conditions associated with angioid streaks.
- Enhanced visualization aids in the assessment of RPE atrophy and other associated pathologies.
