Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) are widely used for water absorption.
Developing stimuli-responsive SAPs is crucial for advanced applications.

Purpose of the Study:

To synthesize and characterize novel photochromic superabsorbent polymers (PSAPs).
To investigate the water absorption capacity and photoresponsive behavior of the synthesized PSAPs.

Inverse suspension polymerization using acrylic acid and acrylamide monomers.
Incorporation of a photochromic cross-linker for light responsiveness.

PSAPs with a hydrophilic core and photochromic shell were successfully synthesized.
The synthesized PSAPs demonstrated excellent water absorption capacity (2800 g/g).
Irradiation at 350 nm induced significant water expulsion from the swollen PSAPs.

Conclusions:

The study successfully developed photochromic superabsorbent polymers with high water absorption.
The photoresponsive nature of these PSAPs allows for controlled water release upon UV light exposure.
These findings suggest potential applications in smart water management and responsive materials.
