[Reconstruction of the proximal ureter by small intestine interposition]

In 2 patients with a solitary kidney it was impossible to repair an obstruction of the upper ureteral part by conventional methods. Therefore, in the first case a calico-ileo-ureterostomy and in the second patient a calico-jejuno-ureterostomy were performed. The advantages of high ureteral substitution by a short small bowel segment are the reduction of the mucosal surface area, the avoidance of a vesicoureteric reflux, the lower operative trauma, and the realization of the operation also in patients with impaired renal function.
