Pathological post-mortem findings in lungs infected with SARS-CoV-2

Autopsies of nine patients revealed lung damage consistent with diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) and vascular thrombosis in SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) infections. Viral RNA was detected in all cases, with ACE2 and TMPRSS2 expression observed in lung cells.
