Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between oral frovatriptan efficacy and specific migraine attack characteristics.
  • To identify clinical predictors for a pain-free response to frovatriptan.

  • 29 migraine without aura patients prospectively recorded features of three attacks using frovatriptan.
  • Generalized estimating equations were used to analyze phenotypic features associated with pain-free response at 2 hours.

  • 34% of 85 recorded attacks resulted in a pain-free response at 2 hours post-frovatriptan.
  • Unilateral pain, phonophobia, cranial autonomic symptoms, and premonitory symptoms were associated with pain-free response.

Conclusions:

  • Migraine attack features, both before and during the pain phase, are linked to frovatriptan response.
  • Further research with detailed attack phenotyping is needed for individualized migraine treatment.
