    Background:

    • Post-lumbar puncture headache (PLPH) is a frequent complication following lumbar puncture.
    • The exact etiology of PLPH is not fully understood but is hypothesized to be related to cerebrospinal fluid leakage.
    • PLPH significantly impacts patients, their families, and the workplace.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To identify key risk factors associated with the development of post-lumbar puncture headache.
    • To investigate the correlation between physiological parameters and PLPH incidence.

    Main Methods:

    • A quantitative case-control study involving 285 patients who underwent diagnostic lumbar puncture.
    • Assessment of blood glucose, blood albumin, systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressure.
    • Statistical analysis utilizing Student t-test, chi-square test, and logistic regression.

    Main Results:

    • Patients experiencing PLPH exhibited lower glucose levels, lower systolic blood pressure, and lower mean arterial blood pressure compared to the control group.
    • Logistic regression identified lower systolic blood pressure (≤126 mm Hg) as a significant risk factor for PLPH (OR, 0.977).
    • Younger age (<40 years) was also found to be significantly associated with an increased risk of PLPH (OR, 0.954).

    Conclusions:

    • Lower systolic blood pressure is a statistically significant risk factor for developing post-lumbar puncture headache.
    • Younger patient age is also correlated with a higher incidence of PLPH.
