Abstract:
A fundamental prerequisite for the prevention of sepsis is adherence to well-known and accepted listerian principles of asepsis. This article reviews the roles of the high-risk patient, nutritional status, high-risk surgery, environmental factors, airborne contamination, preventive antibiotics, and antibiotic-acrylic composites in surgical sepsis.
