  • Sustained proactive control was indicated by tonic pre-stimulus alpha suppression in the high-frequency distractor condition, irrespective of valence.
  • Post-stimulus alpha suppression was reduced in the high-frequency condition, suggesting proactive control mitigated distraction effects.

  • A sustained proactive control strategy effectively reduces distraction from both emotional and neutral stimuli when frequent distractors are anticipated.
  • This research provides neural evidence for how the brain preemptively manages attention to overcome bias towards emotional distractors.
