Observation:

  • A 53-year-old man presented with acute vision loss, scotoma, and dyschromatopsia in his left eye.
  • Funduscopic examination revealed retinal hemorrhages.
  • Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography identified lesions consistent with acute macular neuroretinopathy and paracentral acute middle maculopathy.

Findings:

  • The patient had recent contact with individuals with SARS-CoV-2.
  • COVID-19 was confirmed via chest CT scan and RT-PCR.
  • The patient's clinical presentation and imaging findings suggest a direct or indirect retinal vascular event secondary to COVID-19.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of considering COVID-19 as a potential cause of retinal vascular events, including macular neuroretinopathy.
