Purpose of the Study:

  • Analyze clinical symptoms in patients undergoing tonsillectomy.
  • Compare clinical presentation with histopathological findings of removed tonsils.
  • Determine demographic profiles, comorbidities, and postoperative bleeding complications.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 301 palatine tonsil removal procedures (2017-2019).
  • Indications based on anamnesis; material classified as Chronic Tonsillitis (CT) or Tonsillar Hypertrophy (TH).

Main Results:

  • Tonsillar size decreased with age; largest in patients under 35.
  • Histopathological diagnosis: TH in 54.8%, CT in 45.2%.
  • Larger tonsils correlated with TH diagnosis. Common symptoms: recurrent tonsillitis (70.1%), snoring/sleep apnea (15.6%).
  • Primary bleeding: 3.34%, secondary bleeding: 2.66%. Cardiovascular comorbidities were most frequent.

Conclusions:

  • Clinical symptoms generally align with histopathological findings.
  • Tonsillar hypertrophy is the most frequent histopathological diagnosis.
  • Tonsillectomy indications require further refinement based on clinical and pathological data.
